Hi! My name is Emmeline Basco and I’m from Charleston, SC. I am a sophomore majoring in Political Science with a minor in Law and Society. I chose Law and Society as a minor because it is an interdisciplinary minor, which gives me all the freedom in the world to take fascinating classes like this one! I am involved in Student Government, Alpha Gamma Delta, the Civic Leadership Education Action Team, and the Honors College. I would like to one day work in law, perhaps as a defense attorney. Over quarantine during Spring Semester, I worked and zoomed a lot outside, which my cat Lisa Marie absolutely loved. Her tail often cameoed in my zoom screen as she tried to get my attention!

During quarantine, I picked up the hobbies of weaving macrame and surfing in the early mornings with a friend, mostly in an attempt to fix my sleep schedule! The warm months of the year are hands down the best part of the year to me, and I am lowkey dreading Fall! I grew up dancing and I have gotten to continue dancing through the Dance Department at Carolina, which has been a lot of fun!

Since moving back to Columbia in August, my roommates and I have been cooking up a delicious storm, but I don’t have photos… You’ll have to take my word for it! My Dad is from outside of New Orleans, so a lot of the food I make are out of his recipe book!

I have two siblings, who I am very close with. Will is majoring in Architecture at Clemson (I know, ew), and my sister Adelaide just started her graduate career at UGA’s College of Veterinary Medicine. My dad is a pediatrician at MUSC Children’s Hospital in Charleston and my mom is a teacher. Seeing them help their community growing up is what inspired me to go into law and help those who need it most. That basically sums me up!
